NHS Tier 3 / Specialist Weight Loss Clinics for Wegovy / Ozempic / Semaglutide

PLEASE remember to be eligible for Wegovy on the NHS you must meet the following criteria:

Join a specialist weight management service providing multidisciplinary management of overweight or obesity

AND

have at least 1 weight-related comorbidity and:

a body mass index (BMI) of at least 35.0 kg/m2,

OR

a BMI of 30.0 kg/m2 to 34.9 kg/m2 and meet the criteria for referral to specialist weight management services in NICE’s guideline on obesity: identification, assessment and management.

Use lower BMI thresholds (usually reduced by 2.5 kg/m2) for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean family backgrounds.

What are Tier 3 / speciality weight loss multidisciplinary clinics?

In practice these are the specialist weight management clinics that provide non-surgical intensive medical management with an MDT approach that consists of doctor with a special interest on obesity, specialist nurses, specialist dietitian, and if needed psychological support.

The program is run by our weight management dietitians and offers a monthly virtual group program which explores dietary and lifestyle advice to help work towards making healthier lifestyle changes and improve understanding of food and nutrition.

One to one appointments are offered to those requiring additional support.

Topics that are covered within the program include: regular eating, sleep, cravings, food labels, macronutrients, mindful eating, sugar, fibre, bariatric surgery and lapses.

Throughout the program you will have access to our dietetic team, who can offer tailored advice and answer any questions or concerns you may have around nutrition and diet.

At your first appointment you will meet our team and they will develop a weight loss programme individually tailored to your needs. At this appointment a blood test will be required; any other assessments will be dependent on your health. WE WILL BE ABLE TO ISSUE YOU WITH WEGOVY IF YOU MEET THE CRITERIA AND THERE ARE NO CONTRA-INDICATIONS.

Throughout the programme you will receive nutritional guidance, dietary counselling, and regular specialist support. This programme typically lasts between 3-6 months
